Alberton Lions Club

Alberton Lions Club
The Alberton Lions Club has been serving the community for more than 52 years. We have helped many underprivileged members of the community to receive glasses that they would not normally be able to afford.

Ever since Helen Keller inspired us to champion the cause in 1925, Lions Clubs International have served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired. Nearly a century later, this long-standing mission continues unhindered.

Lions are known throughout the world for their work to improve the lives of the visually impaired and prevent avoidable blindness. Vision is one of LCI’s 5 Pillars of Service.

Vision screening is done at schools and old age homes and patients requiring further help are then taken or referred to optometrists in Alberton and Johannesburg South. We have a few optometrists in the area who kindly offer their services at a nominal fee to test the vision of these people as well as ad hoc requests we get from the public. Scripts are completed and these are sent to Lions Brightsight where the spectacles are made up at an affordable price.
